Maundy Thursday Prayer

Lord, God, you are close.
You truly are the One who sees us and never forsakes us.
Lord, we are blessed to know you, and we want to know you better and get closer to you.
We thank you for all that you see in us, for choosing us, for consecrating us.
Thank you for the ways your love and grace cleanse us each and every day.

But God, forgive us for the times we betray you. Give us the strength and courage needed to confront evil in the world and within ourselves.
Lord, guide us to do what is right for you.
Take our prayers and expand them beyond our own insecurities and failings.
Help us to tune out the loud noise around us pulling us away from you and what is true, holy, blameless, innocent, and pure. We cannot do anything apart from you and pray that the desires of our hearts will be matched to your desires for us.
So, help us to align our hearts, our minds, our will and our actions to your purposes.
Lord, recalibrate and restore our trust in you alone. Confront us, convict us, and give us motivation for showing our families and this community how far the love of God must go.

Strengthen our spirits, minds, and bodies.
We ask you to guide us in the sun and rain, and be the light in the darkness.
Help us to be brave when God tells us to do something, even when we are scared.
Give us what we need to be faithful to you today.
Expand our ability to trust in you and your character. Reveal to us the ways that we are trying to do it on our own.
Use us boldly to accomplish your plans and purposes in the world.
May we trust that you have created us worthy, despite our failings and imperfections.

Thank you God for never quitting on us; thank you for your enduring love for us even when our love for you has failed, lapsed, and ceased.
Help us to live a life of hope in days of hurt, to rejoice in your wonders, to finish full of vigor before we are gathered fully to you.
Lord, we thank and praise you for your generous love that never stops giving and over-flowing.

In your abundant mercy, come quickly and fiercely, Holy Spirit, we pray. Amen.
